The fisheries of the lake are very representative buildings of the city of Banyoles. Each fishery has its own history and personality. They are well known and have been widely reproduced for almost two hundred years, have been photographed, drawn, painted and appear in literary stories. Most of them were built in the last third of the 19th century, when the bourgeois tastes for having a private land where to fish or to close the boat prevailed. Strictly speaking, the word fishing refers to “a place for fishing.” In Banyoles, by extension, it has been used to refer to these buildings built inside the lake.
