The first cathedral of GIRONA

Located next to the river, this basilica welcomes us to the “Barri Vell” of Girona. It presides over one of the liveliest squares, welcoming tourists and locals, forming next to the river a corner of great beauty. Its slender bell tower rises unapologetically, reminding us of a glorious past.

The basilic of St. Felix. The first cathedral in Girona until the 10th century is one of the most representative Gothic buildings, especially the slender bell tower, built between the 14th and 16th centuries. With a sprawling appearance and outside the walls, the Romanesque head was completed with Gothic naves and a Baroque façade between the 13th and 18th centuries. Its interior preserves remarkable works of art, such as the eight pagan and early Christian sarcophagi (4th century) and the Lying Christ (14th century). Later, the Baroque chapel of Sant Narcís (18th century) with an elliptical shape was built on the site where the cloister had previously stood.
